The Advanced SAFe® Scrum Master course delves into the sophisticated skills and deeper understanding required for Scrum Masters to excel in complex SAFe environments. Building upon foundational knowledge, this course empowers participants to become true catalysts for flow, performance, and continuous improvement at both the team and ART levels. We will explore advanced coaching methodologies, strategies for optimizing value delivery, sophisticated facilitation techniques for SAFe events, and methods for effectively influencing stakeholders and resolving systemic impediments. Through in-depth discussions, challenging case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to elevate their impact, foster psychological safety in challenging situations, and lead their teams and the ART towards higher levels of agility and business outcomes.
Audience
This course is specifically designed for experienced SAFe® Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), and other Lean-Agile Leaders who have already completed the foundational SAFe® Scrum Master course and have practical experience in the role. Participants should be looking to master advanced coaching techniques, optimize flow, influence beyond the team, and drive systemic improvements across the Agile Release Train (ART) and potentially the Value Stream.
Objectives
- Master advanced servant leadership and coaching techniques to unlock intrinsic motivation and high performance within SAFe teams
- Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve complex flow impediments at the team and ART levels using advanced metrics and Lean principles
- Expertly facilitate challenging SAFe events (e.g., complex PI Planning breakouts, advanced Inspect & Adapt problem-solving sessions)
- Develop and apply sophisticated strategies for fostering psychological and emotional safety in high-pressure or conflict-prone SAFe scenarios
- Influence and collaborate effectively with Release Train Engineers (RTEs), Product Management, System Architects, and other ART roles to optimize value delivery
- Drive the adoption of advanced Built-in Quality and DevOps practices for continuous delivery acceleration
- Lead organizational change initiatives by identifying systemic impediments and advocating for Lean-Agile transformations beyond the team
- Leverage SAFe metrics and data to drive data-informed continuous improvement efforts
- Foster a culture of relentless improvement and support Communities of Practice (CoPs) within the SAFe enterprise
Prerequisites
Attendees should have a current SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) certification and practical experience working as a Scrum Master in a SAFe environment. A solid understanding of Agile principles, SAFe practices, and Scrum ceremonies is expected. Familiarity with Agile Release Trains (ARTs), PI Planning, and cross-team collaboration within a scaled Agile framework will help participants gain the most from this advanced-level course.
